Ph.D. in Human molecular genetics and biochemistry, Tel-Aviv University, Israel, 2014.

M.Sc. in Plant Protection, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, 1995.

B.Sc. in Plant Protection, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, 1992.

Areas of interest:

I am a human geneticist focusing on Genome-wide association studies as a tool to identify genetic variations affecting complex traits in humans.

Since I joined the Karasik lab (2014) I have been working on developing techniques for detection of genes with possible pleiotropic effect on the musculoskeletal system (muscle-bone), using Zebrafish as model organism for genetic manipulations. For the detection of new genes effecting bone phenotype we are working with the CRISPR-Cas9 method for gene manipulation.  To knockout candidate genes in loci found to be associated with risk of fracture in humans we micro-inject Zebrafish embryos with the CRISPR-Cas9 plasmids. Next we analyze the mutated Zebrafish for any change in bone phenotype using histological staining and micro CT analysis.

Currently, I am very fascinated to explore the metabolic pathways of human muscle GWAS genes and study their role in Muscle development and function in Zebrafish.

Ph.D student

M.Sc in Medical Sciences, Cardiovascular Diseases Research Lab in Baruch Padeh Medical Center, Poria and The Azrieli Faculty of Medicine in the Galilee, Bar-Ilan University, Safed, Israel. Under the supervision of Prop. Offer Amir, 2020.

B.Sc in Medical Sciences and Biology at Haifa University, Haifa, Israel, 2016.

Research area:

My current interest is to research genes regulating the development and function of bone and muscle tissues. My research fucuses on validating and studying the function of genes identified by bivariate GWAS of sarcopenia- and osteoporosis-related phenotypes in human, using a zebrafish model.
